We recognize that protecting the Canadian French identity in North American requires the
enhancement of the cultural, economic, and political sovereignty of Canada as a whole.
Support for the current "free trade" arrangement, and related political economic policies by both
the Bloc Quebécois and so-called Federalists in Québec, is shortsighted.
Cosmopolitan embraces the Canadian identity, which francophones have embraced since the
sixteenth century. Elite advocates for "Quebec sovereignty" legitimate their stated separatist
desire on a re-creation of history, that can suit their xenophobic political agenda.
Notwithstanding this , both the Bloc Quebecois and the "Federalist" support for the current "free
trade" arrangement support the eventual Anglo-American assimilation of the Canadian French
identity in North America -- in a similar manner to the assimilation that has already taken place
against French peoples in America, including in Louisiana.
A political historically stated American manifest destiny, seeks to assimilate Québec, as it does
the rest of Canada. Under such a regime that had existed in the "Dark Years" of Quebec
Society, under the Anglo-American subservient leadership of former Quebec Premier Maurice
Duplessis in the 1950's, Canadians of French background could once against become "third
class citizens".
